FOREWORD
I have seen a number of Hubs purporting to give lists of top places for first dates in NYC (or some other city) and have found them to be rather uninspiring. For this reason, I feel compelled to add yet another list--not however, for first dates, but as venues for meeting women and practicing pickup artistry skills. I should also add that originally I was going to label this the "Top Ten Places to Meet Women in NYC"; however, the more I thought about it, the more it occurred to me that there are dozens upon dozens, if not hundreds, of excellent venues. And so consider my list but a few of many possible suggestions. All the places listed are places that I personally have successfully met women in NYC. There is no other city in the world were you'll find such a wide variety of women. From Dutch models to Midwestern college students to curvy urban Latinas--there's a woman to suit every man's taste or perhaps you want to sample the whole schmorgasboard? You can do that too...with the right game.

TAO is in Midtown on 59th St. b/w Park Ave and Madison. It's right next door to the Four Seasons Hotel.
1. TAO NYC
Description: TAO NYC is by far one of the best venues for meeting women; however, the venue is very upscale and I do not suggest doing your magic in jeans and a T-shirt. TAO is a combination lounge and restaurant--the food is excellent, but expensive. The drinks, I suspect, are watered down--the whisky just doesn't have the same bite as those hole-in-the-wall outerborough pubs. This venue draws a lot of women because it was featured several times on Sex and the City and is part of the so-called "Sex and the City Tour." This pilgramage in honor of the divine feminine is made both by local and tourist women.
Type of Women:
Type of Women:
- tourists;
- upscale professional women;
- outerborough/NJ/Long Island women visiting for a special occasion;
- ladies for hire.
Union Square
- Union Square
Union Square is a downtown venue with a high turnover of beautiful women.
2. UNION SQUARE
Description: Union Square is an amazing venue and a lot more casual than TAO mentioned above. Especially when the weather is nice, you'll find crowds of young people congregating and relaxing. Union Square is above a main subway transfer and so it has a high turnover of people from all over the city. Union is also within easy walking distance of Washington Square Park and NYU. On Sundays, the Square has a farmer's market, and throughout the week there are random spontaneous events. It's also a popular place for radicals (both left wing and right wing) to rant and rave about their pet political or religious theories. Nearby there is a four-story Barnes & Noble and a Whole Foods both of which also draw a lot of people. Next to Barnes & Noble is a popular Sephora that regularly draws model quality women. The surrounding areas feature a wide variety of bars, cafes and restaurants as well as tons of retail shopping.
Type of Women:
Type of Women:
- college student from NYU and other nearby universities;
- women from the outerborough's especially Queens and Brooklyn;
- tourists;
- hipster women/goths;
- yuppie women.
Heart of Greenwich Village
- MacDougal and Bleecker Street
Not too far away from NYU, this venue has an abundance of outdoor sit-down cafes, bars, restaurants and boutique retail.
Bleecker Street by Simon and Garfunkel
3. MACDOUGAL AND BLEECKER STREET
Description: The heart of Greenwich Village, here you will always find crowds of young people out and about all day as it's right nearby NYU. MacDougal Street, in particular, is especially active on the weekends and is lined with pubs, hookah bars, restaurants, cafes and little boutiques. One of my favorite places to get food is Mamoun's, a small hole-in-the-wall falafel eatery which has the best and cheapest schwarma in the city. Down the block is an excellent Mexican restaurant called Panchito's that has amazing sangria. If you like cigars, there's a restaurant a few blocks away on Thompson Street called Cuba that rolls fresh cigars for a nominal tip--and even if you don't order any food there. On Mercer Street, there's an excellent coffee shop called Think Coffee that regularly has live music, poetry readings and even art openings for local artists. Needless to say, the streets are packed with women and you will have no shortage of opportunities to hone your pickup skills.
Types of Women:
Types of Women:
- college students from NYU;
- hippie liberal women;
- artist bohemian types;
- hipster/goth;
- yuppie;
- tourist.
The Ferry
- South Ferry
You can take the 1 line to South Ferry stop or the R line to Whitehall St. If you take the 1 line, be sure to sit in one of the first five cars as you will not be able to get off at South Ferry otherwise.
4. STATEN ISLAND FERRY
Description: The Staten Island ferry is an especial favorite of mine since it's one of the few free venues in the city that has so much pickup potential. The ferry leaves from the South Ferry Terminal near Battery Park in the Financial District and cruises along past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to the mythical Borough of Staten Island. The trip takes about thirty minutes and there are always plenty of beautiful women going along for the ride. The Ferry is especially popular with tourists and you will find women from around the world vigilantly waiting for the perfect photograph of Lady Liberty. If you're familiar with the city, this is your opportunity to show your stuff and impress those eager tourists with your inside knowledge. If you're not so familiar with NYC, well just make it up! They won't know any better.
Types of Women:
Types of Women:
- Italian girls from Staten Island (very challenging target by the way);
- professional women who work in the financial district and live in Staten Island;
- college students;
- tourists.
Behind Enemy Lines
- Bloomingdales, NYC
This an excellent venue for doing the famed "perfume" opener. Both customers and employees are fair game.
5. BLOOMINGDALES
Description: Bloomingdales is the field of dreams for every fashion conscious female, not to mention every female conscious pickup artist. Here, you will find endless bevies of women milling about hypnotized by the artistically arranged displays of feminine apparel. I should also mention that the young ladies who work the makeup and perfume counters are particularly noteworthy and will invariably tempt you to do an opener or two.
Types of Women:
Types of Women:
- tourists;
- "WASPy" and "JAPy" uptown girls;
- professional women;
- very attractive "hired guns".
L'art pour l'art...ou pour les jolies femmes?
6. CHELSEA ART OPENINGS
Description: Chelsea is renowned for its art galleries with several blocks of buildings exclusively dedicated for this purpose. The most active days for art openings are Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Many of the galleries give out free drinks and snacks--some even have decent art, though most of it is decadent nouveau nonsense or radical propaganda trying to undermine the evils of "American Imperialism." Assuming you can filter all that out and enjoy the free drinks, you'll find that this is an excellent venue with endless inspiration for situational and opinion openers.
Types of Women:
Types of Women:
- yuppies and professional women trying to be cultured;
- college students;
- artsy hippie types;
- radical feminists (don't tell me I didn't warn you!).

Cavo Cafe Lounge
7. CAVO IN ASTORIA
Description: With a lush, bi-level dining room, adjacent lounge, and 4,000 sq ft garden that's vibrant with waterfalls and flowers, you'll feel like you've been transported out of New York City. The menu is particularly scintillating with a variety of Mediterranean-inspired dishes. A great after-hours scene with well-known DJs, live music, and other various events throughout the week entertain the neighborhood's young and glamorous Greek women.
Types of Women:
Types of Women:
- stunningly beautiful Greek women;
- professional women;
- outer-borough women.
The Rooftop
230th Fifth Avenue in Flatiron
8. 230 5TH AVENUE ROOF TOP BAR
Description: 230 Fifth is an incredible upscale venue on Fifth Avenue and 27th Street in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. The venue consists of two floors of penthouse space including an artistically landscaped rooftop garden with panoramic views of all of Mahattan, the Hudson and East Rivers not to mention an impressive frontal view of the Empire State Building.
The women in this venue are rather aggressive, and you may well need to do nothing more than be well-dressed (I suggest a suit) accompanied by credible looking wings. I highly suggest visiting this venue irrespective of pickup value as the views both geographical and anatomical are spectacular.
Types of Women:

Types of Women:

Wolf's Paradise
Sheep Meadow Central Park
9. SHEEP MEADOW IN CENTRAL PARK
Description:The Sheep Meadow is every wolfish pickup artist's dream--especially during mid-summer when clusters of scantily clad women as far as the eye can see lay out to sunbath. I cannot begin to tell you how much fun this venue can be with a little creativity. It's an excellent scene for peacocking.
The Sheep Meadow is the largest open meadow in Central Park and sheep did indeed graze the meadow until the 1930s, when they were removed to the wilderness of Prospect Park in Brooklyn.
To produce the almost thirty acres of this undulating green, ten acres of poorly drained ground were filled with two feet of earth, disruptive boulders and a rocky ridge that stood sixteen feet above the finished grade were blasted out, and the reshaped landscape was covered with topsoil. Few sunbathers today realize the effort expended to create this "natural" grassy terrain.

Les Demoiselles D'Avignon
Museum of Modern Art
10. MoMA
Description: A worthy visit on its own merits, MoMA is also an excellent venue for sarging and will provide a continuous supply of attractive targets. The advantage of this venue is that every corner provides a perfect opportunity for an "opener", even for those with little knowledge of art. In fact your very lack of knowledge can provide an opportunity to open a more artistically informed female. Some of the more outlandish pieces provide an excellent occasion for a wisecrack as well. If you do happen to know something about art, this is your perfect opportunity to "demonstrate higher value", or "DHV" as the insiders call it. While you are there, do be sure to enjoy the excellent collection of Picassos. If your attempts to meet real women are unsuccessful you can always enjoy Picasso's famous Les Demoiselles D'Avignon which is an early Cubist rendition of five Spanish prostitutes from the red light district of Barcelona.
Type of Women:
Type of Women:
- tourists;
- artsy types;
- college students;
- suburban and outer-borough girl trying to be cultured.
AFTERWORD
As I mentioned above, this is only but ten of many venues where you'll find beautiful women in NYC. I consciously chose not to mention some of the better know clubs like Cain and Marquee because I assume you're smart enough to find these on your own; however, you will find that such venues are not ideal for meeting women as such venues make otherwise nice gals uber-pretentious. The best place to actually do "pickup" is not inside these clubs with the deafening music and impossible crowds, but outside where all the ladies take their cigarette break--and remember, either have an extravagant lighter as a conversation piece (I like the blow-torch variety); or in the alternative, tell them in a "cocky-funny" manner that you don't have a lighter while puffing away on cigar...all this without even paying the cover charge!
